Get it allll out

Ok, I just have to get this all out. There are so many things driving me crazy right now.

1. Scholars! Ok, what makes a scholar? Is it someone who has studied Islam and likes to talk a lot? Is it someone who knows Quran and Hadith backwards and forwards? I don't know really, but I'm inclined to think that some SERIOUS study is required to be called a scholar. There can be people of knowledge, out there who do not consider themselves scholars. Next on my scholar list... is why oh why do I have to respect or like someone I don't agree with? Just because I'm a simple revert of just over a year does not make me an idiot. I am not just going to agree with someone because they happen to have more 'knowledge' than I do. Why do I have to accept that there are other opinions? Ok , yes.. another opinion exists, but do I have to listen to it or follow it? Islam is not as wishy washy as everyone seems to want it to be.

2. What is so bad about trying to follow quran and sunnah??? why do we have to change and mold it to fit our needs? Or should I say our country? Muslims were a minority 1400 years ago when the rules were set... what makes us think our minority status is more important than that?

3. Seeking knowledge is obligatory on every Muslim. The 'Unity Pledge' that was signed by a bunch of people of knowledge says that the average Muslim should not concern themselves with the complexities of Aqeedah... I just can't agree with that. Knowledge is what makes our iman grow stronger. If we don't know things how can we do everything we can to make Allah happy with us?

4. Fourms... help... I think I just need to stay away from these things. They make me upset, sad, anxious and angry.. everything that I should not feel. I don't know...

Well that is my rant for now... not very polished or nicely written, but I had to get it out.

Salaam Sis,

I am right here with you on all of this, especially #2 and #4, will elaborate more a little later, insha Allah.

Salaam again sis,

*hugs*

1. I'd love to know what qualifies someone to be a scholar, because I know there are some people with some serious knowledge about this deen who wouldn't dare even call themselves a scholar. And as far as liking all of those who call themselves scholars... well, you already know there are some that I like, and some that I just avoid like the plague. As far as other opinions, sure they may exist on issues, and we should be aware of them, but we certainly do not have to accept them, especially if they are not the majority.

2. You took the words right out of my mouth. Why does it seem like if you want to follow the Quran and the Sunnah these days, that you get called "extreme"? We are supposed to follow the Quran and the Sunnah. All this bidah and trying to change Islam or "modernize" it... Islam is perfect, it does not need to be changed or modernized. People need to just stop trying to pick and choose what they want to do and then trying to change everything else to fit their wants.

3. It is the duty of every single solitary Muslim to seek knowledge, and to never stop seeking knowledge, be they a scholar, or a new revert, it is our duty to seek knowledge, and to pass it on.

Bukhari Volume 1, Book 3, Number 71:
Narrated Muawiya:

I heard Allah's Apostle saying, "If Allah wants to do good to a person, He makes him comprehend the religion. I am just a distributor, but the grant is from Allah. (And remember) that this nation (true Muslims) will keep on following Allah's teachings strictly and they will not be harmed by any one going on a different path till Allah's order (Day of Judgment) is established."

Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said, "Allah makes the way to Jannah easy for him who treads the path in search of knowledge.''
[Muslim].

4. I just ended up blogging about this myself on my blog. Insha Allah, check it out when you get a few.

Chin Up Sis. I'm going to add you to my blogroll, insha Allah if you don't mind.

WaSalaam,
Metta

1. Whether or not we agree with scholars, provided they are not saying pure hokum, scholars are deserving of our respect. And we are supposed to LOVE all our fellow muslim brothers and sisters for the sake of Allah, EVEN WE DISAGREE WITH THEM.

2. Of course we have to follow Quran and Sunnah, but there is also something known as Fiqh of Minorities.

3. The unity pledge does NOT say to stop seeking knowledge, where does it say that? It just says leave the issues which require REAL scholarly knowledge to the scholars to debate about, rather than start fighting, screaming and making takfir of each other over stuff which the average muslim (myself included) has not studied at an appropriate level. To give an analogy, if two doctors are taking about the pros and cons of vaccinations, and getting into very technical issues, non doctors could not really have an opinion based on knowledge. As someone who has seen the real harm caused by disunity, I think this pledge is brilliant. And in any case, the Quran is full of commands to be united.

4. For me, it's nothing more than a responsibility. And I can't forego my responsibilities. The 'hurt' we feel on forums is miniscule with what the Prophet(SAW) went thru, but he never stopped giving the message.

It's Misbah here! From why Islam, yeah, yeah..lol

Hope all is well inshallah, just want to say that was an brilliant article you wrote there and I agree with you 100%

Now if only others would, well it would be a god send 

You know I don't follow 'ANY' of these Scholars, why? Well because they are merely but men, I know this might offend some, but I get what I need out of the Quran and the Sunnah only! And that's it, and IF I can't find my answers well, this is my Motto 'If in doubt, leave it out' it’s much safer that way.

I really, no actually it’s gets me so angry when people tell me to follow ‘XYZ’ because they have studied in Saudi Arabia for 15 years or so and I must agree with them.. Why?

I don't know so, to me all Islam questions are answered in the Quran and Sunnah, want to listen to some Scholar be my guest, but don't expect me to!
