Now its the Brothers Turn!

Since my last post was on niqab I thought I'd do something for the brothers. So lets talk about the beard! There are many proofs that the beard is required for all Muslim men. We can see this from the following:

Allah's Apostle said, "Cut the moustaches short and leave the beard (as it is)."Bukhari 7:781

The Messenger of Allah said: Trim closely the moustache, and grow beard, and thus act against the fire-worshippers.Muslim

The Prophet said, "There will emerge from the East some people who will recite the Qur'an but it will not exceed their throats and who will go out of (renounce) the religion (Islam) as an arrow passes through the game, and they will never come back to it unless the arrow, comes back to the middle of the bow (by itself) (i.e., impossible)." The people asked, "What will their signs be?" He said, "Their sign will be the habit of shaving (of their beards)." Bukhari 9:651

Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) said "I have no connection iwth one who shaves, shouts and tears his clothing eg. in grief or affication."
- Reported by Abu Darda (R.A.) in Muslim

Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam)said: "Act against contrary to the polythesists, trim closely the moustache and grow the beard."
- Reported by Ibn Umar (R.A.) in Muslim

Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) said: "Anyone who shaves has no claim to the mercy of Allah"
- Reported by Ibn Abbas (R.A.) in Tibrabi

All of the above hadiths tell the believing Muslim man to grow his beard and trim his mustache. Not too hard right? A lot of people think that because these are hadith that its optional and not required but as we all know the Quran tells us to obey the Messenger:

"O ye who believe! Obey Allah, and obey the Messenger, and those charged with authority among you." (Quran 4:59)

"O ye who believe! Obey Allah and His Messenger, and turn not away from him when ye hear (him speak)." (Quran 8:20)

"O ye who believe! give your response to Allah and His Messenger, when He calleth you to that which will give you life; and know that Allah cometh in between a man and his heart, and that it is He to Whom ye shall (all) be gathered."(Quran 8:24)

"Ye have indeed in the Messenger of Allah an excellent exempler for him who hopes in Allah and the Final Day, and who remembers Allah." (Quran 33:21)

"What Allah has bestowed on His Messenger (and taken away) from the people of the townships,- belongs to Allah,- to His Messenger and to kindred and orphans, the needy and the wayfarer; in order that it may not (merely) make a circuit between the wealthy among you. So take what the Messenger gives you, and refrain from what he prohibits you. And fear Allah: for Allah is strict in Punishment." (Quran 59:7)

There will always be argument about this topic. People will say that they can't grow a beard because it will cost them a job or a promotion, but isn't obeying Allah more important than anything? Also, brothers will say that when they do grow a beard it looks strange or does not grow in fully. The answer to this is simple. As long as you don't shave, you are fine, so just grown what you can grow and say Alhamdulilah. Yusuf Estes tells a story that a brother came to him and asked him if he had to grow a beard, and Yusuf Estes answered him saying 'no, just don't cut it'.

The one thing that drives me absolutly crazy is seeing a Muslim man with JUST a mustache! Isn't that like doing opposite of what he has been commanded to do? Why would you do that? I also wonder about brothers who have the 'fashion' beard that is just a goatee or shaved real short, are they that vain that they can't grow a full beard for the sake of their creator?

So there you have it. May Allah guide all of our brothers in Islam to grow a beard as our wonderful Prophet did.

Assalamu alaikum wr wb,

Beards are great. Not only are they fard, but they are beautiful, even an ugly man can look amazing if he has a beard.
My father used to shave (he is not muslim) and would run after me to abrase my face with the stubble. I'd scream, but it was a funny game for a 4 year old. But if he had a beard, I would have been spared some red marks on my face!

Loving your blog sister!

Sorry to tell you that I searched all the hadith you mentioned and none is sahih except the first one :
"Allah's Apostle said, "Cut the moustaches short and leave the beard (as it is)."Bukhari 7:781"

There's a hadith stating:
Sunan Abu Dawud, Book 1, Hadith 52 - Narrated by Aisha RA, Umm al-Mu'minun: The Apostle of Allah (SAW) said "Ten are the acts according to fitrah (nature): clipping the moustache, letting the beard grow, using the tooth-stick (siwak), cutting the nails, washing the finger joints, plucking the hair under the armpits, shaving the pubic hair, and cleansing one's private
parts..."

Will you go about telling people to use the siwak as well to be fard?

You're so scared of the discussion :D:D:D that proves you're not sure of what you believe in that's why you "reject" comments , hope the blindness is removed from your eyse someday to open up and instead of guiding your brothers and sisters to have beards and wear niqabs , you'll guide them to love each other and have adab and fix their souls cause that's Islam purpose on earth, it's not about looks you superficial, try searching deeper in deen.

I know you'll delete it but I just wanted to deliver my message cause really you need to open your eyes , if you want to make it hard on yourself , so be it , you're free to yourself , that doesn't mean others should embrace your superficial way of applying deen.

You think life will be much better if all men had beards and all womean wore niqab???? is this the message of our Prophet (SAW)??

Do you think Allah the all merciful , all wise all just will make a man enter juhanam cause he shove his beard? think about it , read the books with a human mind not a parrot tongue..learn and understand look deeper in the texts with the help of Allah he'll guide you.

Please forgive me if I offended you but I couldn't help seeing this kind of superficiality and be silent.

One thing about hadith science is that one hadith can strengthen another. Most of the hadiths are from Bukhari or Muslim, which makes them sahih.

The hadith that you mentioned talks about things that Muslims must do. I won't say someone has to use a miswak, but they should keep their teeth and mouth clean... just like we probably don't pluck our hair anymore but shave it instead.

I'm sure you think I'm some horrible person, I really don't know why, but I'm just putting my thoughts down on my blog. If you don't like reading it, don't read it.

I don't know who you are, but apparently you are sort of angry about things. I only reject comments that are rude or irrelevant. Yours was both but since you want to accuse me of things I'll let you get it out of your system.

Was this the way of the Prophet? yes it was, he talked about these things... obviously. I write what I do as dawah to those who may not know the proofs of what I say. If you don't have a beard or wear niqab its fine with me. Do as you wish.

I don't just come up with these things on my own. I talk about things that I hear and read from Scholars of Islam. I bring proofs. All you seem to do is come and insult me and people who try to follow their deen closely.

You can call me superficial if you want, Allah knows best what is in my heart and yours.

If you don't like what I write, don't read it. May Allah guide you to the straight path.

Assalaamu Alaykum wa Rahmatullah Revert Muslimah

Some folk are deaf, dumb, blind and stupid...I wouldnt waste my breath on them. They will twist any hadith to suit their desires and urges.

If Anonymous can't see that the purpose of the siwak was to clean the mouth and teeth, which we can do well enough with toothbrush and paste, then I suppose by shaving s/he would think they are still in accordance to fitrah? However there is a hadith that says that RasoolAllah SAW would have made it fard to clean the teeth prior to each prayer except he didnt want to make it difficult for us.Maybe these shaven ravens wish he had made it easier for them and allowed them to shave if they fancied?

Answer..
No just the Muslim men and women plz.Allah SWT made us into tribes and nations so that we may know one another, and as the Ummah of RasoolAllah SAW if you was to shave, would you then be wearing a sandwich board saying you are Muslim or do you think your halo would be sufficient?
Nothing superficial about following the do's and don'ts.

and...
Please forgive me if I offended you but I couldn't help seeing this kind of fodder and be silent.

Sister Jamilah keep it coming,Jazakum Allahu Khair.

Some people just Don't like to Follow the Sunnah of the Peophet Sallallah Alayhi wa salaam, Islam Was brought to Correct A- Z and back again The beard is simple and if one cannot even do that. the simplest of things how can they even do the Rest. When Reading and learning about the Deen Ways of Adab and Dress ect... it will come. I don't believe this is saying its the only thing but it is a important part of the Deen. And should be Adhered to. there is nothing wrong in following Islam and imitate the Prophet Sallla allah alayhi wa salaam. Beards and Niqab is only a part of a Muslim should know. So I suggest dig ones self out of the box and Get the Point the sister is trying to make insha allah. beards are Fard and Niqab is the Sunnah. ( some sunnah is Far and Other Voluntary and or highy Recommended) every one knows that the Ulema Agrees it is better for women to Wear it because of soceity we live in the men don't lower there gaze. Wearing the beard sets you apart for the Jews and Christians and the Prophet Sallallah Alayhi wa salam wanted us not to be like the Ahul Kitab in actions and Dress. Allahu allim and Also every ones some hadiths are strengthen by the chain of Narrations. but I'm no Scholar so if you doubt Consult with Ulema inshaallah or refer back to Quran and sunnah about obeying the one Whom Allah has sent.
If i said anything incorrect it from my ignorance and the whispers of the shaytan May Allah Forgive me Amin The best of the Speech if of Allah Azz wal jal, and the best Example is that of the Prophet Muhammad Sallallah alayhi wa salaam.
